Such excitement…

Yesterday (Monday 6 Jan) we had such excitement on the golf estate where we live. The club hosted a pro-am charity golf day and they were privileged to have several local and international professional golf players taking part in the tournament.

Our house is fairly close to the clubhouse and around 7.30 am I heard the whirring of helicopters. On looking out of the windows I saw two helicopters had landed on the tee boxes of the 10th hole in front of the clubhouse. They were too far away for me to see who was privileged enough to be transported around in this manner. A little while later the helicopters were back again bringing in more people. Oh my goodness…it was certainly setting the tone for an exciting day!

We knew that Charl Schwartzel, a well-known South African golf player, and Darren Clarke were amongst the celebrity guests, so we were really looking forward to walking around and seeing these players in action.

A friend and I decided to follow Darren Clarke and his group around for a while. It was so interesting watching the big guns in action. They certainly did not have it all their way and found our “little” course quite challenging. Now I wonder if they know how some of us mere mortals feel when tackling the course!!

One of my sons laughed and said we were real golf groupies when I told him about our exciting day. I agreed with him and said we were like star-struck teenagers 🙂

At the end of the day a golf clinic was hosted by, the very amusing, Dave Usendorff. Dave is a golf pro and well-known speaker in South Africa. He entertained us with some amazing trick shots as well as getting some of the other pros to demonstrate some of their shots with various clubs.
